About Jason

Jason Vandygriff grew up and currently lives in Texas. After spending several years filming live music and outdoor related YouTube content, he started Tin Star Films and has ventured into Short/Feature Film production.

The Doll (2019) was the debut horror short film, written and directed by Jason Vandygriff. Mixing elements of slow burn horror and Pediophobia (Fear of Dolls), to create a short form horror experience guaranteed to chill you to the bone. The Doll (2019) was filmed completely with an iPhone XS Max using the Filmic Pro app. Vandygriff acted as a one man crew and actor, framing shots before jumping back in front of the camera. It started as an experiment to see if making a horror film with interesting visuals was even possible by himself, with an iPhone and with no budget ($300). The Doll (2019) went on to win Best Director at the San Antonio Horrific Film Fest (2019), the People's Choice Award at the Stephenville Film Festival (2019) and has received eight official selections to screen at the Oregon Scream Week Horror Film Festival (Spring 2020), Reels of the Dead Chicago (2019), Cairo Mobile Film Festival in Egypt (2019), The Magic of Horror Film Festival (2019), LiftOff London First Time Filmmakers Sessions (2019), Wimberley Film Festival (2019), Stephenville Film Festival (2019) and San Antonio Horrific Film Festival (2019). The Doll is still currently on the festival circuit.

Her Look (2020) is the sophomore effort from Vandygriff. It is a drama short film about a young widower who runs into a college acquaintance at her coffee shop and they reminisce about the woman they both loved. For this film, Vandygriff updated his camera system to a Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K based rig and the visuals speak for themselves. A professional film look is evident in every frame of Her Look (2020). Along with the updated technology, Tin Star Films was also able to hire professional actors including Chance Gibbs, who has film and television credits in such projects as Friday Night Lights (2013), Dallas (2013), Murder Made Me Famous (2016) and Vindication (2019). Gibbs acted in the leading role of Stephen and also produced the film. Vandygriff again filled the role of Jack of All Trades acting as Director, Writer, Producer, Editor and Cinematographer on the film. Her Look (2020) is currently in post production and will embark on the festival circuit in Late Spring/Early Summer 2020.

Unique traits: Jack of All Trades Director. For my films I act as director, writer, producer, editor and cinematographer.
