About Ulrike

Ulrike Baumann, born in 1967, is a German screenwriter exploring the boundary between rationality and the (still) incomprehensible. Horror, science fiction, the supernatural - that's where she feels at home.

In her screenplays, she uses supernatural elements as a symbol of repressed emotions and conflicts to emphasize the importance of uncovering and overcoming inner challenges, thereby also pointing the way to individual and social healing. She prefers to cast her characters as older women in order to break with conventional portrayals and convey a more complex and realistic image of older women in the film industry.

In 2019, her demonic "Mr. Gong's Antique Shop" was shortlisted in a flash fiction competition and published in an anthology. In 2022, her one-page thriller screenplay "Dark Christmas" was a finalist in the Australasian Screenplay Competition.
