Andy Lucas

I am an English author of thriller fiction. I have had some very modest success through self publishing so far, which continues to be my main outlet. I am passionate about writing but I am not at all skilled (yet) at sales, advertising and marketing. This is an area that I am working hard to learn more about so I can maximise book sales and reach new audiences in the future.

I studied screenwriting at university, back in the 90s, and used the knowledge gained to support my freelance work as a corporate video writer and director before deciding to focus on writing books instead. Although my direction experience was limited strictly to training films and corporate promotion (no tv adverts sadly), I really enjoyed taking a project from its initial brief to completion. I wrote the scripts and directed the shoots but I loved working with technicians and editors just as much as my own bits!

Over the years, I have worked day jobs in the fields of mental health, criminal justice and education, which I believe has really helped my understanding of human nature. This, in turn, helps me create more believable characters when I write.

I am currently completing the 8th book in my thriller series, after which I will be completing the 2nd book in a sci-fi thriller trilogy I am writing. Also, in 2022, I aim to edit and finalise a script version of one of my thrillers, to see if it has any merit beyond a book shelf.

One key ambition for me has always been to write and direct for the screen and I will look more into this in future, especially after my next two books have been completed. I have a few ideas for new screenplays which I will develop further towards the end of 2022; both for television.

I am a husband and father. I love animals, especially dogs and horses. I love to build things, plant things and grow whatever I can. I enjoy travelling, riding, driving 4x4s and I prefer heat to cold when it comes to holiday choices. Away from writing, another key ambition is to build my own house one day. At the moment, it would have to be all wood but I aim to learn the art of bricklaying and blockwork in the future, to give me a more rounded skillset!
