About Kim

Kim Ortiz is an author, poet and screenwriter from North Carolina, by way of Tennessee. Her writing is an honest and hilariously reflective mirror of her life—darkly provocative, comedic and sarcastically endearing. Growing up as an Army brat was anything, but boring. Kim discovered writing in the midst of those revolving encounters as a way to entertain herself and preserve the memories of her friends — there's only so many tea parties a girl can have with a faded doodle bear. In 2017, she moved to Spain, where she later obtained a Master of Arts in Global Entertainment from Berklee College of Music. The following year, Kim released her debut self-help guide, "Surviving Your Twenties: The Truth About Growing Up."

In 2019, she relocated to Los Angeles to pursue opportunities in TV/Film. Determined to prove herself during this transition, Kim began taking script writing courses and joined various networking groups. In 2020, she placed as a Quarter-Finalist in the Final Draft Big Break Screenwriting Competition for her first-ever TV pilot, "What A Shame." Kim has participated in several mentorship programs such as Series Fest and Unlock Her Potential. Most recently, she earned a Bronze Award for Best LGBTQ Short at the LA Independent Shorts Film Festival for her short film, "Happy Hour." Kim enjoys writing romantic dramedies, biographical dramas, as well as family and crime dramas.

Unique traits: Well traveled.
