'The Last Repair Shop' wins at the Oscars.

"The Last Repair Shop" a love letter to young musicians in the Los Angeles public school system and the craftspeople who repair their instruments for free, won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Short Film last night. Very moving and close to my heart. You can watch it for free on The Los Angele...

anyone want to weigh in on IMDB PRO?

worth it, not worth it, has anyone made viable and positive connections via IMDB PRO and had any success stories come from it?

I am thinking about pulling the trigger on the yearly subscription but wanted some feedback from you all here first.

Gaelen Meier you'd be surprised how many email addresses are up there! i think it's useful!

Amanda Toney

I find it invaluable and use it every single day. If you are reaching out to some of the larger agencies, they do give a general email address versus a targeted one though.

Sam Sokolow

Agree with Amanda Toney - I find it an enormously valuable platform to see what artists and reps are doing and find contact information that's tough to find elsewhere.

It's an indispensable tool for finding producers, actors, directors and more! Industry pros most often check out your IMDbPro platform before hiring folks..

Thank you for this link - honestly it is the first time I heard this song. In my opinion the "magic" comes from the whispering voice with the breathing. That creates an intimacy. in melody or chords I do not see something special.

Ashley Renee Smith

Interesting read, Linwood Bell! Thank you for sharing! I'm not the biggest Billie fan normally, but I do find something very captivating about this song.

I'm working on a spec script, and I'm listening to the "Jaws" theme as I write it, Leonardo Ramirez. Perfect score to listen to when working on a suspenseful script.

Leonardo Ramirez

That's awesome, Maurice Vaughan. For each script, I've fallen into the habit of picking one piece that influences the overall screenplay and run with that.

Maurice Vaughan

Like listening to the same score/song over and over as you write, Leonardo Ramirez?

Leonardo Ramirez

I know that sounds odd but in some cases, it's worked very well Maurice Vaughan. It keeps the tone consistent throughout the script.

Maurice Vaughan

Definitely, Leonardo Ramirez. I do the same thing.

Have you tried Jacob Collier's VST yet?

Hi fellow Composers. Have you tried out the Jacob Collier/Native Instruments collaboration 'Audience Choir' yet? It's a free download from Native Instruments for Kontakt or Kontakt Player. I have my views but it would be nice to know how other Composers intend to use this new VST.

Elena Maro

Thanks so much for sharing, Navid Lancaster. I haven't used them yet, but the moment I do I will let you know how it goes ;)

Ashley Renee Smith

Yes, please update us when you do, Elena Maro!

The Late Great Robbie Robertson

Just now seeing this 3 week old article, but it's worth the read. Robbie Robertson was obviously not only a great musician in his own right, but his decades long collaboration with Scorsese was so unique and fruitful.

Stock Music

Using stock music in film can be limiting for several reasons, particularly when compared to having a composer create original music that is tailored specifically for the project. I have used it, yet I understand the principles of synchrony. There are moments you certainly would not want to use it....

i absolutely agree with you. Stock pictures and stock music really starts to annoy me and could really result in disliking the video or movie
