Composer in search of video

I plan to continue composing no matter what, but I really miss writing music to video. I did that a lot when I was in school and it was the most fun i've ever had in my life. I am not really a filmmaker, so I had hoped that by joining this website I could connect with film makers, somehow I had it i...

From my experience working on feature films, a lot of it is really about networking and even cold emailing at times, especially if you have a website with a portfolio on it.

for fun to practice my editing, i used to go download a bunch of random footage from pexels and just cut it together lots of which ways with different music just to see how it feels

Pseudonyms - different names in different genres

What are your thoughts on the use of different names, wheter you write a pop song, a jingle or music for a movie. I had this discussion in the writers world and there are strong reasons to have different names in different genres, because one failure does not really destroys your whole brand name. D...

Andy was the best. Honest and good to a fault. Little known fact about him...he made that record for Instant Funk, " I Got My Mind Made Up". recorded it in his basement on a Teac model 5. Got a gold record for it.

Ashley Renee Smith

Alexander Benra, there was a similar conversation about pseudonyms and stage names that took place in the Acting lounge recently. It may provide even more perspective for you: https://www.stage32.com/...

Pamela Jaye Smith

Interesting question. For prose writers it seems more common to have different names for different genres.

Ashley Renee Smith

Thats true, Pamela Jaye Smith! A lot of well-known authors write under different names when they stretch out into different genres or audience demos.

Pat Alexander

Branding is really important these days across media. If you use the same name everywhere, you might be surprised who might like your jingles. Don't think there's anything wrong with trying to be anonymous if you're doing contract work you're not super proud of just for a payday

Why I Scored "Daddy" Doc

Sooooooo....in 2022, we found out that my Dad was terminal with esophageal cancer. I'd always wanted to produce a doc about Dad b/c he's such a larger than life character in REAL life. So, I did. It was a literal race against time but I was determined to get it done. While gathering the assets for D...

These days there’s a battle raging between composers scoring films and filmmakers using prerecorded tracks. Both can work, and either one can be cheaper, or easier to use. Learn when and why you might use one versus the other in today's blog!
