Why Kieslowski’s Three Colours Trilogy May Be the best Trilogy of all Time

Here’s the Moveable Canvas dude extolling the virtues of Kieslowski’s Three Colours Trilogy. Yes, he believes the title of the video is a little clickbaity, but I’ll forgive him for that. The whole best trilogy, best 10 films ever made, or whatever, is getting a little tired.

For me it’s Blue and then slightly behind that, it’s Red - with Juliette Binoche and Irene Jacob, giving great performances. The whole thing is tied together as only Kieslowski can and Binoche delivers in every scene. And yes, the visual style is a wonderful testimony to Kieslowski’s talent as a formidable Director.

Have you seen this trilogy? What are your thoughts?

Stephen Folker

Loved these films.

Geoff Hall

Me too, Stephen Folker

Marsy Robinson

agreed, one of the best of all time. thanks for offering a friday night plan! whoohoo!

M LaVoie

Hard to pick a favorite of the three but I'd say White is probably the most interesting. It's such a twisted story. Karol is a great character played to perfection by Zamachowski. Red seems like a feel good Rom-com after Blue and White.

Geoff Hall

Marsy Robinson so, how did your Friday night Film watching go, Marsy?

Geoff Hall

M LaVoie for me it’s Blue, Red then White. Mostly because I love Binoche and Jacob. The cinematography in Blue is magnificent. That scene in the hospital bed that focuses on her eye, is beautiful and poignant.

Maurice Vaughan

I haven't heard of this trilogy, Geoff Hall. I'll have to check it out.

M LaVoie

Fun fact. Kieslowski wanted Juliette for The Double Life of Veronique but she was working on The Lovers on the Bridge so she couldn't. That's how he found Irene Jacob. Also Spielberg wanted her in Jurassic Park but Juliette turned him down to make Blue.

Geoff Hall

Maurice Vaughan my young Paduan. You will be challenged by it, but will fall in love with Kieslowski, Binoche and Jacob. After Three Colours, check out Dekalog.

Robin Gregory

For me, it was Blue as well, Geoff Hall . Thank you for the reminder. All three made a huge impression on me.

Geoff Hall

Robin Gregory hi Robin, yes, Juliette Binoche is a tour de force. Love her to bits.

Maurice Vaughan

Ok, I'll check out "Dekalog" too, Geoff Hall.

Geoff Hall

Maurice Vaughan episode one, will blow you away.

David Melbourne

Some of his early stuff like No End and Camera Buff are worth checking out as well.

Geoff Hall

David Melbourne agreed, David. He was a master craftsman.
