Introduce Yourself : Executive Producer on Icons Unearthed by Alyssa Michek

Alyssa Michek

Executive Producer on Icons Unearthed

Hi all! I've been on stage 32 awhile but never been really active. I'm currently showrunning a behind-the-scenes TV series about the making of iconic franchise films and TV called "Icons Unearthed" on Vice. But this year I'm trying to get serious about representation and breaking into narrative writing! I'm really into fantasy and sci-fi but also enjoy a good heist or a soap-y drama!

Glad to be here and meet all of you.

Sarah Jones

nice to meet you @Alyssa! I am new to this platform myself too - t sounds like we have similar tastes :) Happy to connect and share ideas/feedback!

Emily J

Hi Alyssa Michek! So glad you're diving into Stage 32! I LOVE a good heist and soapy drama too! Have you checked out Stage 32's classes and labs? They're great for giving you that structure and deadlines as you're working on your writing.

Maurice Vaughan

Hi, Alyssa Michek. "Icons Unearthed" is a catchy title! I'll have to check it out.

Alyssa Michek

Thanks Maurice! It's a fun show and a good master class in how a movie gets made too!

Heidi Wolff

Hi Alyssa, "Icons Unearthed" sounds very interesting!

Alyssa Michek

I can't take credit for the concept, I was brought in to run the show toward the end of Season one, but it's been a pleasure and a learning experience, getting the chance to interview creatives about their work.

Niki H

Hey Alyssa, great to meet you. Nice to see you active :) Be sure to head into the Screenwriting lounge to meet people as you work on your narrative writing journey. https://www.stage32.com/lounge/screenwriting

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, Alyssa Michek. Oh yeah, I'm definitely checking out "Icons Unearthed" now.

Alyssa Michek

Thanks Emily! My show wraps soon so I will definitely take advantage of the classes and labs once my schedule opens up. I tried "How to Get a Pitch Meeting" but it seemed like the seminar was more about what to do once you had a pitch meeting than how to get one? Still very interesting!

Nick Phillips

Hi Alyssa Michek! Great to hear that you're taking it up a notch in terms of your writing. Go for it! If I may ask, can you tell us which icons are covered on the show?

Amanda Toney

Hi Alyssa! Any tips for potential showrunners in our community on how they can break in?

Alyssa Michek

Sure Amanda, I started as an associate producer/researcher and worked my way up to story producer. I'm not sure I can tell you how to move up, it took a long time. All I know is that I worked hard and took opportunities when they were offered and I had people in my corner who saw my potential and were willing to give me a chance. I can't say it's the best way, but they offered me the title without much more in the way of pay, I took it, crushed it and negotiated for more next season. I had a relationship with the company and the brand of the show and they trusted me to take it on. The path on the docu-reality side I think is a lot easier which is why I've been there my whole career. In reality they need to know they can throw someone in the fire and they'll succeed cause there's no time in the budget/schedule for someone to learn. So there's a lot more opportunity to step up and rise quickly when they need you. Unfortunately the cliche that this business is about who you know is true, so my best advice is take the job that gets you in the door and make the most of it.

Alyssa Michek

As far as Icons, we've done Star Wars, the Simpsons, Fast & Furious, Marvel, James Bond, Batman and The Lord of the Rings.

Ian Milne

Welcome back Alyssa! This show sounds great!

Nick Phillips

Those are certainly so big time icons Alyssa Michek! Thanks!

Evelyn Von Warnitz
