About Simon

Some people are avid book readers and love nothing better than to sit down with a glass of their favourite wine and read. Simon Iliopoulos’s passion is to sit down with a bucket of popcorn and watch a movie, regardless whether or not he has seen it before. Simon’s love of movies led him to set up two video hire stores back in the day. After a decade involved in the video hire business Simon decided to have a crack at writing screenplays.  He slaved away over the next few years writing whenever he had a chance while continuing to support his family. It wasn’t long before he found he had a knack for writing stories and yearned to learn more about the art of writing screenplays, so he started to read Hollywood film screenplays, and lots of them. He also read books on writing screenplays—Christopher Volger, A Writers Journey and the Robert McKee Story.
Simon then enrolled in a six week film production course; once this was completed he signed up with an Extra Agency for the next four years. Simon worked as an extra on a number of Australian and US film productions, Australian television dramas and a considerable number of television commercials.
With ten years of film industry knowledge now behind him, Simon wanted to move to the next phase and started a small management company. He was on the lookout for writers to represent. He engaged a number of writers and worked tirelessly in representing them as their manager.  Simon then travelled to Los Angeles/Hollywood for five weeks and while making contacts with some of Hollywood leading filmmakers he managed to secure a writing assignment for one of his writers.
On Simon’s return back to Australia he re-evaluated his achievements, and although he had made significant inroads, he still hadn’t quite accomplished what he had set out to do, and that was to establish his filmmaking career.
Simon got back into writing his own material and over the last nine years he has completed two screenplays and another three are in ‘development’. Simon was born in Sydney and lived there for 41 years before moving to the Gold Coast of Queensland in 2004.
