Upcoming Book “Edit Without Tears with Final Cut Pro”

For many years I worked as a wedding videographer and in my upcoming book titled “Edit Without Tears with Final Cut Pro” set to be published towards the end of 2023, I unpack the set up and editing of this day spent with Elizabeth and Mark

Having viewed my show reel from previous weddings Elizabeth and Mark were confident in giving me creative license on their big day. All my wedding videos had been produced with multiple cameras using the multi-camera (multicam) feature in Final Cut Pro which can edit up to 128 camera angles. A multi-camera shoot uses a number of cameras to record the same subject or event from different angles and distances with the same audio source.

For Elizabeth and Mark’s ceremony shoot, I set up 4 cameras and 4 audio recorders – in total there were 8 sources of media set up across the church – the pulpit, the center aisle, the couple and the fixed wide camera set up in the choir. Finally there were two gimbal cameras capturing the guests reactions. Microphones were placed in the pulpit and main body of the church. The minister and groom both had lapel microphones attached.

The set-up procedure in Final Cut Pro is critical - every camera and audio source needs to be labelled. The main church audio, which runs for the whole ceremony, becomes the foundation for the camera and other audio tracks to synchronize with. The software matches everything together into one track so the editor can then cut between the angles. In my book “Edit Without Tears with Final Cut Pro” this editing procedure is explained step by step and in depth so you can learn how to produce a professionally produced multicam video.

It was a great wedding day, with one little hiccup when the wedding limo planned for the day was unfortunately unavailable. But incredibly while at the photo shoot a guy turned up with a white Ferrari and very kindly offered it to the couple for their photos!

What a great story and topic in general - so much emotion and practical information. I cherish my wedding video and know how hard it was to actually pull together by the amazing team that did it. Excited to check out your book when it comes out. Wishing huge success with it, Bruce G Macbryde!
