Screenwriting : My first feature screenplay done, what's next? by Micke Askernäs

Micke Askernäs

My first feature screenplay done, what's next?

So, I've finished my first feature screenplay, submitted to a few competition and festivals, without really knowing what I'm doing.

This was the third award in a couple of weeks, and I'm excited that people actually (well.. at least possibly) read it.

However, I've realized that telling a good story is one thing. Selling a good story is totally different beast, even though they're only one letter apart.. and right next to each other in the alphabet.

How would I go about, without spending a fortune in training, preferably, to get better at pitching? To help improve my pitching skills, in written form, to create more interest for my work?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated

Göran Johansson

Turn your screenplays into plays. Tell the nearest amateaur theatre to produce. When the play version becomes a success, you can tell that to those who buy screenplays.

Tack, Göran Johansson , For the short movie I just finished the other day, I might just do that, as that one could work well, I think.

However, this script, and the second feature I wrote are not really suited for that, I think.

A horror drama thing which needs some effects for it to reach its full potential, and a post-apocalyptic sci-fi thriller are not really the first types of genres I would guess works well on stage ;)

You could email success@stage32.com and ask for the most recent written pitch examples. One example is for a feature and the other is for a show.

If you're a member of the Writers' Room, I suggest checking out the weekly Pitch Practices. It's every Thursday at 8:30 P.M. EDT. You can sit in and listen to other members pitch. The hosts (Noel Thompson & John Mezes) give feedback on the pitches. You can also sign up to pitch, but you have to attend a certain number of Pitch Practices (sit in and listen to other members pitch) before you can sign up to pitch. The Pitch Practices are the best pitching resource in my opinion. If you’re not already a Writers’ Room member, you can sign up for your first month of membership FREE here: www.stage32.com/writers-room/plans-vip

is this already into a movie?

Yes I have won screenplay awards but still nothing has come out of this and sometimes I wonder? I don't know about you Micke, but I'm continuing receiving emails from screenplay competitions all over the world to enter and they're offering me a discount up to 70% off! Don't waste your time or money! Maybe you need to look at your story and turn it into a GREAT story because GOOD stories don't get made.

Congratulations. Keep up the good work.

Congratulations!

Congratulations. There is a pitch session every Thursday night from Stage 32. I attended a couple of times and I liked it. My time zone does not work well to attend every week.
