Work in progress based on the musical family of author Nick Douglas. True story of the beginnings of jazz as an artform in New Orleans. The author is from one of the oldest free people of color families in the Americas, tracing his history back to the first free African in Canada. The documentary will trace the unknown story of the genesis of jazz and tell the story of how Mexico and New Orleans was a refuge at different times for people escaping persecution
