About Blanka
Blanka was born in Gdansk, Poland to a film director Grzegorz Plocha and theatre set designer Agnieszka Lapinska. She began her career in theatre and film in Warsaw starting her journey at Machulski’s school. She is the granddaughter of the Polish actor Jerzy Lapinski. Her Scottish descent – from her grandfather, James Hardie-Douglas, was part of her decision to come to the UK in 2013. Since then, she’s been studying and working between theatre, film and education. Alongside her freelance work, she also works in Creative Learning at the Barbican Centre.
She graduated in Drama from the Queen Mary University of London where she was awarded the Silvia Perry Prize for an outstanding contribution to the department. During her degree, she created numerous Live Art performances and written for theatre and film. Her work evolves around social issues and human rights. She draws inspiration from real life events as well as philosophy and literature. Each of her projects is based on a precise research from versatile sources.
Her film career began during her time at the university where she made various collaborations with film students. She produced her first film with an actor and filmmaker Ibrahim Amaev. Their debut ‘An Ode to The Order of Things’ premiered at Cannes Film Festival. Since 2017, Blanka has been a student of LA-based coach Anthony Monthes. In one of the workshops, she met Jacqueline Oceane with whom in 2019, she established a production company Doorbell Films.
