About David

Training in London I spent the first five years or so shooting low budget documentaries, short films and music videos. Most of my early work was completed on film, namely Super 16mm with the occasional 35mm project.
As time progressed I started gaining more work in television and was asked to shoot several UK feature films either as second unit DOP or on B camera "Fated" and "In the Name of God". About 8 years ago I relocated to Australia and quickly started working in short films "Ronan’s Escape" then Second unit DOP/B camera on feature film "Wasted on the Young". I was subsequently asked to shoot a children’s’ (26 x 30min) series called “Castaway” for Channel 7 and spent 6 months in Broome WA. The last few years has seen me working with Perth companies Joined Up Films, Artemis, Prospero, WBMC and Taylor Media on many TV projects and most recently on the BBC Horizon series. If that wasnt enough I enjoy shooting music clips and have shot nearly 50 several winning awards and Aria nominations San Cisco "Fred Astaire" and Voltaire twins "Animalia"

Joining the ACS 5 years ago has seen me gain recognition for my documentaries, short films and music clips gaining several gold awards and recently the West Australian screen award (WASA 2014) for best cinematography long form on ABC factual series “Who’s been sleeping in my house?”

Coming from an indi background I am used to making budgets go as far as possible whilst pushing the visuals to create the Directors vision for the project. Having worked for over 16 years as a cinematographer I consider myself a highly motivated and energetic person, I like to work fast and equally at home in a studio environment creating lighting styles or shooting handheld running up the side of a mountain.
