About Johnny
Johnny Daggers began his carrer in film in 2010 when he wrote, directed and starred in his award winning short film, Samhain: Night Feast. Fed up with corporate Hollywood horror, Daggers took it upon himself to the film. A film designed to bring the old school feel back to the horror audience. Initially the film was made for nothing more than enjoyment, and was never intended for international release. That would quickly change. Just weeks after the film's completion, Daggers received word that Samhain: Night Feast would be screened at the Bastards Of Horror Short Film Festival (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania). Much to Daggers surprise, the film was deemed the “crowd favorite”, thus winning the film festival. Daggers had already begun his venture on another film, Caustic Zombies, and decided that with the success of the Bastards Of Horror Short Film Festival that he would launch a legitimate production company, DaggerVision Films.
Caustic Zombies were released on DaggerVision Films in 2011. The film was an instant media darling and would find Daggers in the indie horror spotlight, being interviewed for magazines around the globe. The film premiered to a sold out crowd at the Hollywood Theater in Dormont, Pennsylvania on July 22, 2011. Just as Caustic Zombies were coming to a wrap, Daggers was asked to act in a film for a then DaggerVision Films partner, Brian Cottington. The film was entitled, Tablet Of Tales and would star Daggers in the lead role as “Fritz Alleister Mernau”. Daggers performance was acclaimed by the press and fans alike with his Tom Waits styles as the role of the devil.
In 2013 Daggers would get back to work on his next film. A dark animated horror film entitled, Mo Anam Cara. After months of labor building sets and procuring legendary actor, Doug Bradley (Hellraiser) to narrate the film, the film exhausted its budget and came to a grinding halt. The project sat at a standstill for several months before Daggers reluctantly canceled the film. Distraught over the film production roles, Daggers decided to take a break from film making and focus on his now flourishing modeling career. During this time Daggers was featured in the worlds number one leading Alternative Modeling magazines, Bizarre. And also graced two covers for Halloween editions of Strange Beauty and Dark Parlor Magazines. In the Fall of 2013 Daggers was offered an opportunity to appear as an extra in two episodes of the A&E television series, “Those Who Kill”. Appearing on “Those Who Kill” reignited Daggers spark for film making and he decide to break his short lived film making hiatus.
By the end of 2013 Daggers had relocated from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Baltimore, Maryland and parted ways with long time friend and partner, Brian Cottington. Daggers and Cottington accomplished a lot over their three year working relationship. Aside from the three films, the two also hosted a very successful horror talk broadcast; Daggervision Films Horror Talk Radio, from 2012-2013. It was now time for a change.
With a new environment and staff changes to Daggervision Films, 2014 was off to a fresh start. In April of 2014, Daggers would start work on a documentary entitled, Blood On The Reel. The documentary focuses on the hardships of indie film making and was inspired by actual events that had happened to Daggers in his four years as a filmmaker. Blood On The Reel is the first documentary of its kind, and with that media buzz quickly spread upon announcement of the film. Just months after the announcement, Daggers confirmed over 30 filmmakers from around the world to participate in the film and signed a distribution deal with SGL Entertainment. Blood On The Reel is scheduled for release in 2015 on SGL Entertainment.
