About Leandro

Writing is much more than work for me: it’s something that puts a smile on my face every time I think about a new project. Nothing makes me happier than discussing and developing ideas, new characters, stories, plot points, dialogues and all the possibilities involved in creating a script. Doing it by myself or specially when being a part of a creative team... I have to admit I really love what I do.

I was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I was always fascinated with movies, even when I was young. But the funny thing is, I never really considered working in movies. Actually, I always wanted to be a vet. But when the time came for me to choose my college education, I realised this was the only real option. And I never regretted it.

From that decision, the only thing I knew I wanted to do was writing and I focused on that. I graduated in both Film School and Writing for Television in college and spent 18 months studying writing for films in one of Rio's most regarded film schools. I also took classes with established writers in Brazil, as with Robert McKee in the U.S. and had a sitcom selected by Columbia University teachers in Columbia's first workshop classes in Rio, where my sitcom was one of 15 series pilots to be written under the supervision of Columbia professors and showrunners Joe Cacaci and Trey Ellis. In 2016 I got 5th place at Cannes Screenplay Contest with the pilot developed during those classes.

My career as a writer started in 2008, with the sitcom "Cilada", Brazil's most celebrated tv series at that time. After that, I've worked as a freelance writer for several sitcoms and spent 5 years working as a writer and script analyst for Total Entertainment, a big production company here in Brazil. During this time, I created 2 sitcoms and worked as a head writer for a third one, which came to be a big success in the ratings, being the second most watched series of Fox Channel Brazil, behind The Walking Dead. And I also wrote 5 films for the company; the first film was released in 2015 and the others are scheduled to be released in 2016 and 2017.

Now, I'm working again as a freelance writer and I'm really seeking to improve my craft. And I'm doing it here in Brazil but also trying to find partners and jobs around the world. After all, one of the greatest parts of being a writer is that we can do it anywhere - and that's not bad at all!
