Doug Mills is the son of an artist, the grandson and great grandson of Maine lighthouse keepers. Doug is a filmmaker, nautical photographer and author specializing in the historic tall ships that call Maine home.
Doug’s newest film, Windjammer” is a three part documentary following the history and lore of Maine’s historic windjammer fleet.
Doug is Photographer and Curator of The Maine Windjammer Project one of the largest collections of nautical photographs centered around the historic fleet of two and three masted schooners, which sail the Maine waters. Started in 2007 The Maine Windjammer Project is an ongoing project to document the modern history of the historic windjammers on the coast of Maine. Many of these boats are over 100 years old two are over 142 years, launched in 1871. This unique photographic history covers from 2007 to the present, sailing, haul out and the special events, such as The Great Schooner Race 2010 to present. This extensive archive is available to maritime and American history museums and those doing research on these last surviving boats.
With over 40 years in the arts, Doug brings a wealth of artistic expression to his films and photography. Doug's films and photos will transport you to a place where life is simple and the rugged unspoiled beauty will take your breath away.
In 2017 Doug launched Maine Positive TV a part of the RCN America Network.
