In 2010 I won the opportunity to direct my short, "Random Natural Occurrence," as part of the Duke City Shootout. With three days to film and seven days to edit, using a professional cast and crew from the Albuquerque area, and shooting under strict union rules, I was lucky enough to shoot a comedy filled with music, special effects, and stunt work with an unbelievably talented group of actors and technicians. The film went on to screen at the Shootout's Gala Film Festival where it won "Audience Favorite," "Best Screenplay," and "Best Special Effects," and then onto the festival circuit for a few months. It ignited my passion for filmmaking and the joys of writing for the screen.
I've written feature screenplays and original TV pilots, one of which I am actively attempting to sell. "Buffalo Nation" tells the story of the Lakota at the height of their power from the Native American perspective. I spent nearly four years researching and writing a pilot that tells a fictionalized story of Crazy Horse, Red Cloud, High Backbone, and the Bad Faces band as they ruled the plains in the 1860s. Addressing love, war, and Native politics at the time, the series was painstakingly crafted to accurately and respectfully depict the progressive and diverse Lakota culture at that time for today's global viewing audience. More about the series can be found through the link below.
My feature "100 Acres" is a unique adaptation of A.A. Milne's novel "Winnie-The-Pooh," which just entered the public domain this year. Set in 1971, it tells the story of a prudish and urbane schoolboy Christopher Robin, who is reluctantly dragged to rural America where he encounters a curious group of kids in the orbit of a simple but curious girl named Winnie Saunders.
