Aaron I. Butler, ACE, is an Emmy Award-winning, two-time ACE Eddie Award-nominated and PGA Award-nominated editor and producer.
His feature work includes I AM MICHAEL, starring James Franco, Zachary Quinto, and Emma Roberts. The film was executive produced by Gus Van Sant and premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, and was nominated for Best First Feature at the Berlin International Film Festival. He also edited IN DUBIOUS BATTLE, directed by James Franco and starring Bryan Cranston, Robert Duvall, Ed Harris, Sam Shepard, and Vincent D’Onofrio. It premiered at the Venice Film Festival and was awarded the Fondazione Mimmo Rotella Award.
His documentary feature work includes the HBO film AMERICAN WINTER, for which he was nominated for an Emmy and an ACE Eddie award, and OUT OF IRAQ for which he won an Emmy. He also edited and produced the HBO theatrical documentary CRIES FROM SYRIA, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. The film was nominated for an ACE Eddie award, a PGA award, and a Satellite award, and won the Critic’s Choice award for Best Director, the IDA’s Courage Under Fire Award, the Cinema for Peace award and the Humanitas Prize.
He is currently editing the narrative feature JT LEROY starring Laura Dern, Kristen Stewart, and Diane Kruger.
