About D

D Renard Young is the founder of THAT ROCKZ!®. Born and raised in Detroit, his passion for popular music and the culture it effects has been deeply ingrained in him since birth. More than just a fan of creating, he’s also a classically trained composer and opera singer, and began a burgeoning career as an opera singer before a fateful vacation to Los Angeles between opera performances that changed the course of his life forever.

D has worked in every facet of production, beginning with his first Hollywood gig as an office production assistant on the now cult classic MGM film, "Soul Plane," then as an audience producer on "The Ellen Degeneres Show," to an associate producer on Steve Harvey’s "Big Time." He kept climbing the ladder as a producer, coordinating producer, supervising producer, executive producer, show runner, director, writer, and series producer on shows like MTV’s "NEXT," "Love & Hip Hop NY" (Vh1), "The Moment Of Truth" (FOX), and "The Ultimate Merger" (TVOne) to name a few.

As the CEO and head of development for John Doe Media, he created, developed, sold, and produced dozens of shows, including the successful series, "Totally T-Boz" (TLC), "K-Ci & JoJo...Come Clean" (TVOne), and most recently Bravo TV’s, “Thicker Than Water.".

D proudly reps his 80's baby status with a pop music culture foundation rooted in the original days of MTV, and his first Columbia House music club order which included Michael Jackson’s, “Thriller,” Madonna’s self-titled debut, and Prince’s “1999,” all favorites to this day. Now he’s combining his worlds of broadcast content production with his love of pop music culture to create a high quality home for film stuff 'That Rockz!'

Unique traits: Ex-opera singer and classically trained composer. Speak a few languages "ish." Uncertified food survivalist.
