About Giovanni

I am a film and videogame composer. I recently scored the New Zealand movie Orphans & Kingdoms, the TV movies Il Confine and Il Giudice Meschino and the docu-film Ilaria Alpi - L’ultimo Viaggio for the RAI channels. I also provided music for the video games Zotrix and Boxes With Guns.

While in Rome, I led a film scoring course at the Italian National Film School. Among the guest lecturers that participated are Academy Award winners Ennio Morricone, Mychael Danna, Ludovic Bource and Nicola Piovani. As a tribute to my hometown I composed Napoli, a 4-movements Symphony. A succesfull crowdfunding campaign helped me producing The 8-bit Time Machine, an album homaging the 80s’ video game culture.

I started playing piano at age 4. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Berklee College of Music majoring in Film Scoring. Shortly after I enrolled in the Los Angeles Internship Program. During that time I moved my first steps in the movie business participating in such projects as Sam Raimi's Spider-man 3 and John Singleton's Illegal Tender. After that I worked on many movies among which The Ramen Girl and Calvary.

Film (Comedy and Drama) Music department Father James is a small-town priest in Ireland whose Sunday confessionals suddenly include a threat to kill him in a week's time as a matter of principle. Deeply troubled and conflicted about how to respond, Father James tries to go on with his calling through that week. However, that proves impossible as he is confronted with a troubling variety of spiritual challenges from both his estranged daughter and his own parishioners. In those dispiriting struggles, Father James' life begins to fall apart as time runs out towards a confrontation that seems to crystallize his values and what he wants his life to be. Film (Comedy, Drama and Romance) Music department Abby, four years out of college, an aimless child of privilege, comes to Tokyo to be with her boyfriend, who promptly leaves for Osaka. She wants to stay in Tokyo in hopes he'll come back to her, but she's miserable: she speaks little Japanese and has a dull job as a law-firm gopher. She stumbles into the neighborhood ramen shop operated by the aging master chef Maezumi and his wife Reiko. His soup cheers Abby, so she decides to apprentice herself to him. He's uninterested, she's insistent, so he shouts at her and gives her all the cleaning to do. Weeks go by; she's persistent. Will he ever actually teach her to cook? And if he does, will she bring the requisite spirit to the job? Written by <jhailey@hotmail.com>
