Jude Roth began writing while earning her B.F.A. in Drama from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. There, during one of many bouts of insomnia, she began writing down the noise in her head – instead of fighting it – which turned into an audition monologue that kept getting her cast in projects. After college as an apprentice at Actors Theatre of Louisville, colleagues commissioned her to write monologues for them. Monologue writing turned quickly into short story and poetry writing that got performed at The Knitting Factory in NYC.
Since then, her multi-faceted and award-winning work includes having adapted two novels by Nobel Laureate Nadine Gordimer: one into a stage play that Roth starred in at Ensemble Studio Theatre in NYC; and the other, into a feature-length screenplay while working directly with the author on the adaptation over 18 months. This work led to Oscar-nominated producer Joni Levin (Peter Weir’s THE WAY BACK) hiring Roth in 2012 to adapt another novel into a screenplay.
Roth then wrote and starred in what became her original award-winning short drama EL DOCTOR, which subsequently sold to PBS and Latino Public Broadcasting. Before selling EL DOCTOR, the film screened at 20-plus film festivals including several Oscar-qualifying festivals and won Best Drama Short at Riverside International Film Festival. After screening at the Guanajuato International Film Festival, Roth received a request from the most prestigious art institute in Mexico, El Instituto Mexicano de CinematografÃa, to archive EL DOCTOR.
Roth’s TV pilots and features have been winners and finalists at Slamdance, PAGE Int’l, Austin Film Festival, Cinestory, Writers Network/Fade In, among others competitions; and her newest feature script DELIVERY GIRL just won Best Screenplay at the groundbreaking La Femme International Film Festival.
Most recently, this past December, Roth and Stage 32 member Devi Brulé co-wrote and produced a crime drama short, directed by Brulé, who's also the former director and showrunner of Ashton Kutcher’s groundbreaking webseries.
Roth is lucky she gets to share her life with a group of wonderful friends and business associates, her two cats and dog, and her musician husband Rob who's scored two of her award-winning films and just released his debut blues/alt country album "Buchbinder Roth."
