About Louis

Louis Holder is an independent filmmaker based in London. He has been an active filmmaker since 2007, and has worked on a number of short films and documentaries which have garnered relative successes at both regional and international film festivals. His director-producer influences include various new-wave indie auteurs like Wes Anderson, Stanley Kubrick, John Hughes, Sofia Coppola and Richard Linklater.
He is inspired greatly by productions with rigorous planning involved, strong aesthetics and stories which derive from or delve into human connections, experiences and domestic life. In addition to filmmaking, Louis is also known for being a well-established part of school and college life, being involved in the startup, management and publicity of numerous clubs and societies, and being an active social commentator and art-in-education activist. At High School, Louis founded and ran the award-winning production company and news-gathering service Twyford News, between 2009 and 2014, at his secondary school Twyford CE High School. The company delivered and marketed video coverage of large-scale events, such as drama productions, local festivals and multi-camera entertainment shows for the school and in later years, the borough of Ealing. He was also Editor-In-Chief of Twyford's termly high-brow magazine 'The Twyfordian' for it's pilot year before becoming it's Senior Photographer & Film Editor in it's second and third years.
In 2012, one of his short film's, Shadows of Light, qualified to Official Selection status at The Bedford Park Film Festival (BPF). In 2013, Louis was accepted into the BFI Film Academy - delivered by Eastside Educational Trust, a film course run by industry experts, developing the next generation of film industry talent. Louis was mentored by award-winning filmmaker and documentarian Caroline Bacle and visual artist Emily Bailey, his production team produced 'Half Minded', a short film which culminated in it's recognition amongst NFTS (National Film & Television School) submissions that term. In Early 2016, he began development on his feature directional debut 'One Night More' with Principal Photography that commenced in Summer 2016. He is currently studying Film at University of Westminster and producing various films with his colleagues there including Party Animal (2017), Moonflower (2017) and Desire (2017), the latter of which is being shot on 16mm.

  • One Night More

    One Night More (2017)
Film (Romance) Producer One Night More is a story of inner-city romance set in modern day London and how two people can meet and change each others lives to make them think differently about themselves and how change is an inevitable thing and also a constant. We explore the complex, albeit brief, relationship between Rose, an aspiring photographer, who meets Khrisna - a dancer. The film gives an unique, negative and perhaps melancholy perspective on love and attraction and how people at the end of the day just might not be attracted to one another, and must simply learn how to move on to the next thing, whatever that might entail. The story isn't trying to say anything big or new in regards to romance other than subverting 'the teenage ideal' of being in a relationship which sees no lasting potential just for the sake of fitting in. • Bella in the Wych Elm

Bella in the Wych Elm (2017)
Film (Short, Drama, Mystery and Thriller) Production manager After the recent passing of her father, Sigourney returns home to the Midlands, planning to write a report on a local mystery she had obsessed over during her childhood in the hopes it will bring her some closure. Troubled by phantoms in the night, Sigourney seeks comfort from her mother, drawing on the close relationship which has been under pressure since her moving away. It is this relationship that Marlene, the elderly heir of a local estate, senses and hence chooses to impart her knowledge of the mystery. When Sigourney visits Marlene, the two form a connection and the story of Bella, whose body was found inside a wych elm on the property during the Second World War, is revealed: Marlene is the daughter of 'Bella', a local woman killed by Nazis who were targeting Greta, a German double agent. Greta witnessed this murder and adopted Bella's identity, raising Marlene as her own. Written by Freya Noyce
