In this age of smart phones, many actors choose to record their auditions or other content with their phones. And why not? They shoot in 4K now, have amazing software to auto-correct exposure and color, and they're convenient.
BUT! In this transition to the smart phone audition, many actors don't understand the implication of using a camera lens that is 12 inches from your face. Especially a tiny lens.
Not sure what I mean? I made a video awhile back that will show you exactly what I mean. And you might be shocked at the difference between a smart phone at close range versus a camcorder at 8 feet away (and zoomed in).
I also go into a very common type of audition scene (the driving scene) and give a simple tip on how to make that type of scene look and feel better.
