The Astonishing Meta-truth of The Prestige

I'm not quite sure how I managed to take so long to get around to watching The Prestige, but I'm just now at the climax, and having realized the twist, I am in complete awe of Christopher Nolan.

I had no notion what to expect, I purposefully avoid all info related to select Creatives' projects, and so am floored that the film's premise is the same as he used to equally amazing effect in Inception. People think of him as a filmmaker of course, and as an entertainer to be sure, but I now understand he is truly a magician of the highest order.

And to his credit, he hardly cheats the audience with the sort of camera trickery, which in essence are a series of lies of omission, that were the main liability of his earlier work examining the limits of our perceptions of reality, the much beloved Momento.

Not as fun to watch as some films, this one requires patience and attention to detail (to his credit, he tells us this repeatedly), but this film, this Work of Art, is so well-conceived as to be truly masterful.

Some have done it as well, but none have done it better. Bravo!
