Once is not your standard, contemporary American musical. Based on the film, the story takes place in a Dublin bar. It is a story about possibility, the roads taken and not taken, opportunities to be grasped, and at its core, love. What is wonderful about Once are the songs and staging. It is an ensemble piece with the actors assuming several roles in addition to playing the accompanying instruments. What I think contributed to this show’s original success was the dynamic and chemistry between the two leading characters – Girl (originally played by Cristin Milioti) who is a Czech and Guy played by Steve Kazee.
