BBC iPlayer ‘fastest growing VoD platform in the UK’

Now this is interesting reading, because I was talking with someone last weekend who is currently working with Fremantle and he said how dire things were for production companies in the UK and that a couple had gone under in the last week — and yet this news article seems to suggest we’ve entered some kind of golden age for the UK film industry:

“This is a success story for UK creativity because as the biggest investor in UK producers, talent and skills the value from our spend is retained in the UK and benefits the long-term sustainability of our world-class sector. In a competitive global market BBC iPlayer stands out as the home of distinctive British content – made here, authentically told and universally available to all.”

Any thoughts you’d like to share? What do you think is really happening? All’s well for the BBC, but not for indie producers?
