I put this short video together as a small tribute to the late ‘Sandy Denny’. Sandy is one of my favourite British folk singers / songwriters / musicians. She was best known for her involvement, in the late 60’s and early 70’s; with the ‘folk rock’ band ‘Fairport Convention’. Her collaboration with bands ‘The Strawbs’ and with her husband ‘Trevor Lucas’ on ‘Fotheringay’ not to mention her solo work are all equally sublime. Tragically, this influential young woman, died at the age of 31, from a brain haemorrhage inflicted by a fall down a flight of stairs. I shot the bulk of this video, whilst visiting my Aunt in Lake County, Florida, USA Despite covering myself all over with 100% Deet, which even melted some of the plastic on my camera, I still managed to get bitten by those pesky mosquitoes! I did the ‘flower time lapses’, ‘bird consumed by maggots’ and ‘my brief cameo’ when I got back to London. ‘The eye’ was actually a reflection in a paving slab at Piccadilly Circus. Incidentally, ‘my cameo’ and ‘the eye’ were the only shots that utilized a camcorder. The rest was shot with a Nikon D300 SLR i.e. thousands of large, fine quality 12 mega pixel jpeg stills! The tracking shots were achieved with a simple rig I constructed from a mechanical timer along with ‘motion in post’ on my computer. Thanks for your interest. Michael Moustafi
