Jamal grew up in Southern California dreaming of becoming a filmmaker and learning to believe in the content of your art above all else. Attending Morehouse College, Jamal earned recognition for "Life's Suite" and "Under Development," a short film used in recruitment for Morehouse. After graduating, he wrote and directed a feature film, "Nobody Smiling," nominated for Best Feature and Best First Feature at the Pan African Film Festival. Jamal’s love for narrative led to him directing numerous commercials and music videos, combining exceptional visuals with humorous, creative, and relatable storytelling. The result has led to several awards including the grand prize in Cannes and honors at SXSW, BFI London and Tribeca Film Festival.
