A middle-aged techie chained to his business helps a wounded vet recover a mysterious love story off a dead hard drive he meant as a Christmas present, forcing both men to face change they fear.

SYNOPSIS:

A contemporary Holiday tale bringing together two men whose lives are entangled in impossible circumstances as their love stories wait patiently on the sidelines of their lives. Both moving and springled with light humor, the story begins in the San Diego sunshine on Black Friday with shoppers in flip flops and plastic snowmen collapsing under the blazing midday sun. David Wilks is co-owner of a growing computer merchandise and repair store. In his late 40s with a caring wife and three daughters, Wilks finds himself running on empty as his days are absorbed with running the business he founded with his friend John. Together they are doing well, but haven’t arrived, so the business remains a growing monster forever devouring his time and energy. Although his circumstances don’t change, David is about to be changed. When his apartment burns down on Black Friday, Ron Davis shows up at David’s shop with his computer hard drive he pulled from the ashes hoping to recover the data of a story he was writing for the girl he loves, a girl he hasn’t seen since he was wounded in Iraq. Through his effort to recover Ron’s lost love story, David becomes all too aware of the sad condition of his own. As the two men continue struggling forward to bring this mysterious love story back, they are unaware of the end that awaits them both – changes and risks they once feared, now become the Christmas presents that set them free. David Wilks is a strong late-40s male lead that will be attractive through a wide range of emotional development and adorable family cast. As the supporting male actor role Ron Davis is a subtle eye-opener bringing forward the challenge of a disabled character who goes through very intense emotional battles while being far from the stereotypical wounded veteran. Easily capturing a PG-13 or even PG rating, the film is written to move along quickly as it develops the plot with a surprising yet satisfying, even inspiring, conclusion as the story of finding lost love comes full circle. Although the script is 101 pages, the finished film should be no more than 90 minutes. Production costs should be relatively low as there are minimal, modern-day sets, and contemporary themes throughout. As a Holiday film, Recovering Christmas has the potential to be a seasonal favorite as a collection of life’s little lessons that will endure on screens of all sizes well into the future.
