Hi Stage32ers (especially in the New York Tri-State Area. We and the meager crew I have assembled are in pre-production on a short film. We are scouting locations and have run into one bump along this road, an elevator. The climax of the film takes place in an elevator and we are having quite a time finding one to shoot in (at the building's convenience timewise) that isn't asking for an astronomical fee or even more astronomical insurance coverage. Does anyone know of a film friendly building/location that has an elevator? Any help in this matter will be greatly appreciated. Once this hurdle is jumped its on to casting which as a heads up we are looking for two female leads (but that's another lounge.) Thanks in advance Stage32ers. Mike
You're on the money, Peter, as easy as that.
You can try The New Yorker Hotel 34th & 8th. I've shot there few times before, they even let me shoot on the roof once while hovering a helicopter (pre 9/11). Failing that try The Film Center Building 630 9th Ave. they may let you use their elevator.
Thanks Peter/Chanel. That's my fall back short of rewriting the scene. This is a low to no budget short so we're trying to not have to build or construct anything. Ken, thanks for the great leads. I will check them out. I have another possible location, The House of The Redeemer on 95th. Landmark building with beautiful interiors and a stunning old elevator. I am "negotiating" right now (a.k.a. becoming an indentured servant to get the space and time for free.
You could even try NYU tish school of film. They have a few nice building with elevators. They're helpful, I knew the old dean but not sure who's there now.
