I am waiting for an opportunity to write a screenplay on western classical music, or adaptations from earlier novelists ...may be Dostoevsky, Melville, Maugham or Hemingway...just wishful thinking!
Most of what I write with my partner Andy has been action or drama. The ones I've been hired for were horror and thriller which was a fun change of pace and inspired me to start a horror of my own. I'm open to just about any genre. I have ideas and scripts on the back burner for Sci-fi, horror, historical fiction, and others! What's my favorite thing? I've loved movies and learning how they are made since the first time I took the Universal Studios tour in 77 as a kid, so being part of the "making of" process, working with producers and directors, learning from Andy, the opportunity to be on set for filming, watching actors perform the lines I wrote and then after it's produced, seeing how an indie like that has to find buyers/distributors. I even enjoyed doing rewrites for upcoming re-shoots... I love the learning process of it all! The only thing that's hard is waiting for the release!
Sounds like you have had some great opportunities, Lisa! So cool. I can't wait to get to some of those stages of being a screenwriter. :) I, too, think that I would enjoy a variety of genres. So far I have co-written comedies and a family/animation screenplay.
I mostly write Action/fantasy or true crime. I get lots of inspiration from mythology, but to avoid offending anyone's religious beliefs I try to use Fantasy, Sword and Sorcery type settings. One of my current pieces is loosely based around the legends of CuChullain but set in an original setting, not Iron Age Ireland. I also write lots of mob stories, because they tend to write themselves, can be set in the real world, and be kept accurate without anyone taking offense.
The majority (Or maybe all) is drama, Becca. I have always been drawn to serious stuff. And l love the fact that in dramas, moments happen that touch your heart. Like at the end of, "7 pounds" when Will smith's character did one of the bravest things I ever seen in my life and gave his life so his body parts could be a gift to drastically help and save others. I want to write moments like that over and over again. Thank you for sharing, Becca. And what is your favorite genre by the way?
So far I have co-written comedies and one animated/family script, Antonio. I definitely have ideas for some dramas and would like to write them one day. I'm really enjoying the comedies at the moment. :)
I dream to do an adaptation of any of the earlier classics from English, Russian, American or any other worldly literature. Or a musical type on a classical music composer. My shop is open for anyone to come in with an offer :-)
I usually like to write dramas. I especially into any type of serialized drama because I love the fact that you can keep certain stories ongoing and not have a much pressure to wrap things up in 1-2 hours. But recently, I have come up with an excellent idea for a comedy (or comedy/drama) that I'm excited to start working on.
Coming of Age, thriller, adventure, sci-fi seem to be my wheelhouse. I don't have a favorite things bout writing the genre nearly as much as I have a favorite thing about writing.
I get the same things out of writing that some people get when reading what others have written. The writing process, for me, is even more of an adventure than the people that will see the final product. It's my creative escape. An escape to a world I'm in complete control over; and in the end I can share with others. The others I've shared my writing with seem to enjoy the worlds I explore. Writing is simply my favorite drug. It can't be described as simply and accurately any other way.

Mostly Fantasy with a thriller within the main story line.

I'm a sci-fi junkie with a twist of horror on the side.
Lol. These two took exactly what I like to write, lol.

I like writing action/adventure but animation bullies me into a corner lol. But I'm not complaining, that's where my imagination works best.

Action/Thriller/Suspense, because of my own personal experiences. Writing from experience makes things that more authentic and original.
Christopher, my co-writer and I like putting in pieces of our personal experiences as well. But we like to exaggerate them too. ;)
