Read a Good Book Lately? : Secret Deals by George Hadjioannou

Secret Deals

My point of view as a writer/author of my 1st book listed on Amazon. Writing a novel takes discipline, dedication, and a lot of hard work. I have invested a lot of my time and energy into writing my book. Then, it was time to ensure that my work was ready to be shared with the world. But what was next? Would it sell in the ever-more competitive publishing marketplace? I needed a business plan. Little did I realize that this is a full time job! Do I have the time for all of this? Marketing and selling my book? Some say Social media is your best bet to let the world know about your book. However, I discovered that this is not entirely true. You sell about 10 books a month and some months none. That’s nothing compared to the time one puts into this project and the money spent on publishing a book. The chances of your book succeeding are slim. Is this is a risk that one must be prepared to take? As an author, I must also have a platform to support my promotion plan – Again that’s not really good enough if your friends don’t in turn spread the word about your book. Advertising is costly and I can not afford it. Purchasing a mailing list for my fiction genre is also not worth it. As we all know "Celebrities" use ghost writers and get publishing deals because publishing companies know they'll sell their books, even though they may be trashy. Publishers know that celebrities’ books can sell upon release. Does this means that my story must be unique to create big profits? It is because of the reviews I read on Amazon from those who read the book. Since I am unknown no one even wants to be my publicist/agent. Agents don’t even have time to read or hear about the story. So you make some Video Book trailers and post them on You Tube and FB with the hope that it would be easier for people to see what is the story all about. This helps but not a lot. So it is a constant battle to compete with all the other new books. The question is do you give up? Or continue to write another story and go through the same frustration. Is it worth it? If you are interested in building a partnership and if you wish to respond to me with some answers on how to proceed, since I am new in this industry, please e-mail me at ghadjioannou@yahoo.com Thank you.

Welcome to the deep ocean of Amazon. Not sure of the answers but I just keep writing. Happier then in years, doing what I really love. Have not figured out any schemes for promotion. So far I've not spent anything on creating the books or on selling them. Feel immense satisfaction in that. What more can one want? Now have nine novels, a short story, one novella, and two short stories in anthologies published last year. Maybe if the stack gets high enough, I'll get discovered. Wishing you a happy new year and happy writing.

George -- the trick is you build a big PLATFORM first, also you work out the marketing, and then you write. You will have good results if you hire a publicist but you'll need to bring very strong ideas to the P.R. firm. Good luck and keep this trick in mind for book # 2.
