Introduce Yourself : Reaching One Person by Elizabeth Reams

Reaching One Person

Hello, and nice to meet everyone. Been on Stage 32 for only a month now, done a few online skype pitches, some rejections, some requests. This is a truly a great way to practice. I'm originally from Portland Oregon, started doing some programs in community TV (back with those handheld camcorders that held S VHS) and was able to make a documentary about animal shelters that recieved some awards back then. After that I was definitely into producing. Since my Dad raised on horror and scifi, and my mom making me watch indies and academy award movies - my buffer was pretty strong in regards to making sure the creative and story element would never be sacrificed, when I looked at scripts. I moved to Montana to get my degree in film and then moved to Los Angeles where I was there for 10 years...making contacts. That means, having meetings in offices, over dinner, over coffee. I gained so much experience from that and think I had over 300 various names and numbers by the time I was done. But still never got anything made. You then reach a point where you aren't really sure if anything ever WILL get made. But you know that if you stop trying, it's the worst and most depressing feeling in the world. And we certainly don't want to feel that. I will most likely be pitching and trying to produce both unique and commercial projects, until the day I die. And I may never have anything to say for it, or even made. But I can definitely say this: anytime someone does see what I'm trying to show to the world, that means I've reached one person. And someone requesting info after a pitch, is an incredible feeling. Even if nothing ever happens from it. I reached one person, one soul, one spirit...who sees what I see. Greatest feeling in the world. And we just keep going. Cheers this holiday to all the hardworking writers and producers out there who are giving it their all, to make a difference in this world.

Dara Taylor

Such a fantastic attitude! It's your kind of un-breaking dedication and heart that screenplays are WRITTEN about. I'm glad you'll never give up; this whole business is a game of attrition and those with tenacity and talent are BOUND to be successful. Best of luck! :-)

Tony Moschetto

I second your thoughts, Dara. Good luck, Elizabeth! Happy writing!

Mandla Bolekaja

Agreed with the above comments. However you continue to do what you really love and there will be satisfaction.

Maryann Miller

Tenacity wins out all the time. Good for you.

Richard "RB" Botto

Love your energy, Elizabeth!
