Question

If I post up a pitch to a story I'm writing about, could someone steal my idea off this site? I'm just starting in the business and I'm searching for guidance to writing great scripts.. Thanks, Tito G

Shawn Speake

Tito! You're in the right place, my man! It's cool to post your work here. That's what S32 is about.

D Marcus

Since (as Lisa points out) an idea cannot be copyrighted the answer is yes; someone could "steal" your idea. I am in no way suggesting this site is filled with idea thieves - it is not. Some of us are more cautious than others about posting ideas in public. It is a personal decision.

Shawn Speake

My stuff is copy written too. I just haven't seen that type of behavior here. Most creatives here are on point. If you're just starting out, I doubt someone stealing your material is a major concern. Have a great day, guys!

Shawn Speake

Amen, Ron!

D Marcus

Good point, Ron. And that's the reason an idea cannot be copyrighted. Give five writers an idea and you'll get five different screenplays. And just a friendly aside; we are talking about rights. So it's copyrighted not copy written. No offense intended.
