Acting : Instinct and the Actor... by Alyn Darnay

We talk a lot about instinct and the actor, what it is, and how it comes into play during the audition process. As good as having great instincts is, they can prevent you from reaching for that moment casting people want to see. As humans, our instincts are honed to protect us, as actor’s we must learn to be fearless. To audition in a way that will win you the part, you must assume all of that risk, leaving the safety net behind, knowing full well that the more like the character you become, even if it’s against your nature or will cause you some measure of embarrassment, you have made choices that can only be interpreted as rife with the possibilities of an extraordinary performance.
