Introduce Yourself : Longtime artist turned screenwriter/director by Stephen Arthur Schaffer

Stephen Arthur Schaffer

Longtime artist turned screenwriter/director

Hello Everyone! My name is Stephen Arthur Schaffer (or just Steve) and I'm new to Stage 32. I've only been here a few days, but it seems like a really cool place, and I've already begun to make some connections with some very talented individuals. Like I said, I started my career as an artist, a freelance comic book illustrator to be exact, but I've always loved film and telling stories. I'm currently hard at work on two screenplays that I hope to have drafts of in the next few months. I'm still sort of new to this, so any words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated. I love talking and interacting with creative people, so if there's anything I can do to help get you to where you want to go, please don't hesitate to ask (admittedly, I have very little power, but I'm always good for a morale-boosting virtual high-five, lol). I guess that's it for me. Don't be shy and say hey!

Stephen Arthur Schaffer

Thanks, Kathryn!

Hey there, Brandi! It goes well, just trying to connect with some cool peoples like yourself :)

Ronnie Yeoh

Hi Steve! I'm writing my script, too. Murder mystery.

Stephen Arthur Schaffer

@Brandi - since I'm new to the game, I don't really have a specific genre, and I try not to ignore an idea because of its genre and my feelings about said genre. That said, the story stories I'm outlining are both dramas that focus on isolation vs. freedom. One is a more personal story, and the other has more thriller elements thrown in for good measure :) Also, I liked the music you uploaded. I am not musically inclined by any stretch of the imagination, but I enjoyed your work. Of the three, I think "The Rising Sun" was my favorite. I mean this as a compliment, but it reminded me of Howard Shore's LOTR soundtrack at certain points. I'm curious, how do you compose your music? Is it all live instruments, digital (I think that's a real thing, right...?). I've always wanted to finish a film so I could sit with a composer as they score my movie. I think that would be the coolest thing in the world.

Stephen Arthur Schaffer

@Ronnie - Hey Ronnie! Good luck with your script -- murder mysteries are always a good time. Care to share any more details?

Sam Inglese

Stephen. I am in Boulder, Co. Let's meet after the blizzard melts down. I have a romantic comedy to sell and new documentary's to make. All with a touch of Epilepsy involved and potential medical marijuana.

Stephen Arthur Schaffer

Hey Sam! Not sure how you want to meet, I'm in Philadelphia, PA. I love talking to writers though, and I'd be interested to hear about what you're working on!

Sam Inglese

Stephen. I thought in your getting to know promo you stated you were in Denver, Co. I suspect PA is a bit to far away from CO

Stephen Arthur Schaffer

Nope. Yeah, a couple thousand miles, lol.
