The last two things on the way to my first feature

Hey all! I have two questions for you all. These two things are holding me back from making the movie I want to make. I'm having trouble finding the right sound setup for a project I am on the verge of creating and it is my first feature film so I'm definitely excited. But more than that, I know what is necessary. So in regards to the sound setup, I need to put eight wireless lavs into use and I don't know how to do it and what equipment would be best for it. At the very least, it'll be six lavs that are needed. Second, I've been looking at houses for this one location shoot I plan to do. Of course, the cheaper the better, but I'm wondering if anybody can recommend a place or a method to get it, or if anyone out there would be willing to let me use their house for my first ever feature upon further details at your request. Of course, I'm willing to negotiate on anything but at this point, its all ideas and advice (until it's not ;) hahaha please help me figure this one out. It feels great being this close and knowing that nothing will stop this train, but simultaneously knowing that there is still work to do. Thank you all!

Sennheiser G3-a Lavs. The best for indies.

Easy alle, because it's the only way for me to do it. Which is why I asked about that instead of how to capture the best sound. I'm asking these questions for help with my current set up, not the ideal one...but I figured out what I'll be doing. eight zoom h1s and eight lavs...pluraleyes in post to match up to camera and h4n audio. That should solve quite a few of my problems the simplest and fastest way...unless someone foresees issues I don't? Batteries and storage have already been taken into account.

Im sorry you dont believe me even after i just told you... Its a found footage documentary style thing. I want clean sound from everyone involved on top of the audio i get from the h4n mounted on the camera. Just trying to avoid any adr in post. I considered micing the house but this seems easier to control.

Alexander Williams

I wouldnt ask you to. Maybe you should ask christopher nolan what he thinks about adr...no to the boom because i dont want to capture it by accident. So yeah, keep thinking your way. Its the reason I wont be hamstrung by a budget while creating new and trailblazing films while youre stuck fantasizing about the ones you could make. Stay off my projects. That goes for forever. So back to the topic at hand. Unforeseen problems with this scenario? I figure syncing the sound, dropping unusable sound while lowering the volume of anything but critical tracks would yield a good mix and feel of the tone in the house. It would also give me multiple tries to get good audio so ADR is minimal if needed at all. I will be trying it on set and working it on the fly so things that i can do to streamline it all before i have to learn the hard way?

You're chatting with Chris Nolan, Alle? Make sure to tell Emma Thomas I said, "hello." Been a while since I've seen them. : p

Alex, I have no idea about your set or number of characters on set and in what their proximity is. Two lavs work well in a two shot/ots mix and I have used three at once (not happy about it.) I wouldn’t think about more – the mixing and balance will drive you nuts. I’ve tucked cardioids in the flower pots and on booms if I have a set full of actors, shotguns for most set-ups. Can’t help you on location where you are.

Aldon Baker

Woah, hyper inflated egos in sight. Reality not in check. Alert. Alert. ALERT! Welcome to hollywood.

Alexander, you say found footage documentary (like Paranormal Activity or Blair Witch?). What type of footage are you going to find? 8mm, 16mm film, VHS tape and digital all have different sound qualities about them that should remain true to the format that you “find”, otherwise you risk losing the true documentary quality I think you’re seeking. I don’t think I’d go top quality audio on an “old” 8mm film.
