Writer-Producer who loves to network

Introduce Yourself weekend? Okay then. I'm a writer-producer currently located in central California but looking to move to Los Angeles as soon as finances allow. I've done a little bit of everything here and there (location coordinator, 1st AD, scripty, props manager, etc...) and have some pretty great friends in high places in the business which has helped a bit here and there. What I'm most stoked about is that my passion project TV series has been optioned to at least the pilot stage through a small production company that really believes in it and wants to help it succeed. Champions are the best thing anybody can have. This same company has a comics division, and my 4-issue comic has been green-lit also and is in the early stages of getting made, plus I'll be writing on some of their comics too. Recently, I've gained an open-door pitch opportunity with an amazing mid-level production company too, which is interested in one of my ideas. On top of that, I'm working on strategic brand partnerships for my lifestyle info-reality show. 2015 is looking amazing! As my headline there says, I love to network. I also love to stay busy, and not do everything on spec, so if you'd like to contact me about PAID serious work, (or funding for my lifestyle show), please feel free and I'll see where it could fit into my schedule. I can't take on any spec//unpaid work at this time. If you'd like to link up and network here, please do, I love to talk to other filmmakers. Nice to meet you all!

Good to hear that things are going well. Is moving to southern Cal. absolutely necessary.

Thanks! If you want to have steady work in television, yes (depending on what you do). Things are being shot elsewhere in greater numbers because of tax incentives, but the cerebral cortex of American television is still Los Angeles. Most of the studio and production company business offices are still in Los Angeles, as well as the limitless networking opportunities, agents and managers, and so on. I suppose if you're a crew person who likes to travel a lot, or are extremely lucky and have a solid regular gig at a production studio in Atlanta or Toronto, you can get away with it for a few years. But this is an industry of transients. You're always breaking in, and always looking for the next job. Your chances for finding opportunities are exponentially better in the Los Angeles area.

Congratulations on the option, Willow. Clearly, you're a self starter who is kicking some doors open. Love the passion and the approach! Wishing you nothing but the best in all your creative endeavors!

Very cool, congrats on seeing some results for your hard work. I hear you on the paid vs unpaid stuff, in my regional market everyone wants actors to work for free, but I have been turning down unpaid work as well currently. At some point you have to say enough is enough.
