Some films are not meant to be remade. The raw feel from the original could never me matched by CGI. I still have yet to see the new RoboCop and Total Recall. I will see it, but will not pay the theater price to see it. I am already in shock "The Magnificent Seven" and "Westworld" are in pre production. If they remake "Escape From new York" I'm done! lol.
The vast majority of the movie has been done in practical FX and stunts. There is actually very little CGI. Thus far I have heard nothing but good things about it and with the original director at the helm and the fact that the trailer screams that it's nothing like Thunderdome (which is a good thing) I'm totally on board. It's also not actually a remake. It's a continuation of the story. The main villain is even played by the same villain from the original first film and is supposedly the same villain, just years later.
Shawn, thanks for posting that link. Great read. It was especially encouraging to hear someone else say that a writer is not necessarily strongest working from planning mode, as I rarely write that way. Anyway, got to see the movie last night, and it definitely lived up to the hype. Too bad my husband fell asleep. He doesn't know what he missed out on.

I'm revved up for some high-speed chases, good old-fashioned gratuitous violence, and Tom Hardy, of course.
I'm going to see that one on the big screen!
My husband has no interest in seeing it (go figure). Good thing my birthday's coming up. :)

It's the original director and he's all about practical. Tom Hardy swinging on that pole is real. I say give it a chance.

Here's the B-Roll BTS video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9kK-CbqH0k Why use CGI, when you can get it in camera for real?

Just saw it. So awesome a lot going on, but you don't get lost. It was also great to finally see a strong female lead in a mainstream movie.

I've watched all three movies. The last two movies I watched yesterday.
