The executive had something come up, and could not listen to a verbal pitch, so Joey suggested the written pitch, which led to my first request from a written pitch! This is encouraging since the verbal pitching success with requests, feedback from the passes, and simply the process alone have each time contributed to me streamlining my written pitch to most efficiently reveal and clarify the most important parts of my screenplay. Likewise, I find the more focused and balanced I have the written pitch, in turn, the better it helps me develop a comfortable flow from start to finish when verbally pitching next time; not because I memorize it, but after having removed all the clutter it's easier to pitch because it's boiled down to the essential parts that make the most logical sense for what I am targeting to convey. Having a clear vision of what I am pitching allows me to then relax and simply have a conversation about it when pitching verbally. Anyway, just my two cents about what seems to be working for me as I move forward learning the tools of marketing my work. It indeed seems to be taking as much work to polish the art of pitching so it properly reveals the heart of the story as it did to polish the screenplay itself! I'm loving the process of learning as it is perhaps more exciting and rewarding to have those break throughs in how to clarify and strengthen the pitch as it is was writing the screenplay itself, especially given how Stage 32 makes it so those breakthroughs can lead to the one that puts you in the game! Anyway, huge thanks to Joey and Stage 32 for making this part of the process such a fun and exciting process. The story continues!
