Introduce Yourself : Hey Everyone. by Gavin D Walsh

Gavin D Walsh

Hey Everyone.

I just thought I'd introduce myself to the site :) My name is Gavin Walsh, and I'm a screenwriter from South Wales, UK. I'm currently working on a feature film about former British Royal Marine sniper Matt Johnson, whose son, having carried on the family tradition of serving his queen and country, finds himself, along with 3 other servicemen, held captive by Al-Qaeda extremists following an ambush on his convoy at night. The extremists demand the release of one of their own, who is currently being held on terrorism charges in the UK. Matt, who is a highly decorated former Corporal, holds a very dark secret that could destroy the current Chief of General Staff and Chief of Defense Staff, that dates back to their time serving together during the Falklands war. A secret that soon becomes his 'trump card' to force his way back onto the front line, in order to help save his son, and the others, from certain execution. But at what cost? I hope you all like the sound of it. I will post an updated full synopsis and logine on my profile when complete :)

There's no comment from you MyCrowd Tester? It's blank?

Beth Fox Heisinger

Hey Gavlaa, this is Beth from the Stage 32 team. I just wanted to let you know I moved your post from Screenwriting to Introduce Yourself, as it fits much better there. Let me know if you have any questions, and all the best to you!

Gavin D Walsh

Hey, Beth, Hey, Kathryn, thank you both.

Sarim Momin

Sounds interesting Gavlaa

Gavin D Walsh

Thank you, Sarim. I appreciate that :)

Alberie Rachele Hansen

Welcome, sounds like a great story to work on, hope the creative juices flow :D I love Wales, I got to study there when I was at Uni, I'm an actor based in California. Good luck!

Gavin D Walsh

Hey, Alberie. Thanks for your comment. Where in Wales did you study? Swansea or Cardiff? I hope I get to visit California one day :)

Gavin D Walsh

Thank you, Coreetta :) I am working on it right now. I'm glad I've had a couple of positive responses. This will help me I'm sure. :)

Bob McCarty

You have my attention!

Gavin D Walsh

Glad to hear that, Bob :) Thank you!

Deborah Hancock

Hi Gavin; I will keep an eye out for you. Having a British husband, I am keen on UK films. :)

Debbie Croysdale

Sounds a good " edge of the seat" drama. Happy Weekend.

Gavin D Walsh

Thank you, Debbie :) hope you have a great weekend yourself.

Gavin D Walsh

Hi, Deborah. Thank you. I have only now noticed your post, sorry Lol. Where in the UK is your husband from?

Cyrus Hallam

Sounds great!

Gavin D Walsh

Thank you :) I appreciate that, Cyrus.

Gavin D Walsh

Thank you, Laura. I am currently hard at it on my second draft, which has already changed considerably from the first. Hopefully it won't take too much longer to get it ready for coverage :)

Gavin D Walsh

Hey Laura. I'd love to learn more about your recent screenplay. Are there any small samples available on here anyway as others have posted for a read?

Gavin D Walsh

Wow... That is amazing, Laura! I'm going to take a good look at those now. I have a good friend who has been in the forces for 15 years+ to help with my military research. I also have another friend who served for several years, and has also done a tour in Afghanistan. I'm hoping their knowledge will help me a great deal with polishing up. Great news for you though. :)

Bob McCarty

Laura - I sent you a network request and would love to speak with you about a subject I spent 18 months investigating before turning it into my first of two nonfiction books.

Gavin D Walsh

Hey Laura, I see your point totally. My screenplay is totally original, born from my own ideas, so will have the normal element of 'far fetched' about it, with it being an action/drama. But of course some things still have to be on par with reality. Do you think it's a bad idea to write about a topic such as this if it is not a true story? Any feedback is much appreciated. I'm enjoying reading what you've uploaded so far, and will continue to read more tomorrow.

Gavin D Walsh

I've just uploaded the first 18 pages from my second draft for a little feedback. If anyone reads it, please be gentle lol.

Alberie Rachele Hansen

@gavin d walsh, sorry just saw this reply, I studied in Trinity St Davids Carmarthen, but I did make it to both Swansea and Cardiff. Yes hopefully you ca make stateside one day :)

Gavin D Walsh

That's awesome, Alberie. Literally a few miles from me. Yeah one day, it is a huge dream of mine :) thanks for the reply :)

Tegan Elyssa Harris

Hi Gavin. My Dad is Welsh and fought in the Falklands War (Para, not Marine). I'm not much use to you as I have an RP accent but I could ask my Dad questions if you have any. He won't tell any secrets though!

Gavin D Walsh

Hey, Tegan. Thanks for the comment. If I have any questions, which I may have at some point, I'll send you a message if that's okay? I've made up a good secret of my own, though :) lol. Totally fiction this story is.

Steve Hamm

Welcome Gavin

Gavin D Walsh

Thank you, Steve. :)

Steve Hamm

I always enjoy watching a good, well written military story. I'm prior service myself so I tend to critique stuff more than most. I watched "The Final Option" with dad many moons ago and saw "Bravo 2 Zero" during my survival training. These have been the two best productions that I have seen. Best of luck with your production

Gavin D Walsh

Thank you :)

Gavin D Walsh

I think my second draft will be complete within the next few weeks. I'm thinking about getting coverage on that draft from the Happy Writers, just to see if I'm heading in the right direction.
