Resources for period lingo

I'm writing a film about a black cowboy that is set between 1903 and 1908. Are there any resources of specifically African American expressions from that time? My google searches have not been very helpful. I've been using "Weren't No Good Times: Personal Accounts of Slavery in Alabama" as a starting point but the era of the film's setting is 40 years later. Granted, the accounts in Weren't No Good Times were transcribed in the mid 1930s but the generation of my characters are also not in sync here. Any help would be tremendously appreciated. Thanks! Nick

Kudos to you for wanted to get it right, but remember: no one is going to know if your lingo is a few decades off. But maybe you have more integrity than I do. :)

Sure there are-- remember google is your friend... I googled "western slang in 1900s" and got this webite first off... http://www.legendsofamerica.com/we-slang-s.html It's a start.

Find old newspapers and novels. I also recommend checking with historians, e.g. the California African-American History Museum: http://www.caamuseum.org/
