Introduce Yourself : Scottish Writer/Director by Andrew John Rainnie

Andrew John Rainnie

Scottish Writer/Director

Hello! My name is Andrew Rainnie, and I'm a filmmaker from Scotland. I am primarily a writer, and have had a couple of feature scripts optioned, as well as publishing an epic fantasy novel. I do film work as well, with my new company Rain Fire Films. We're doing small projects like weddings, music videos etc. Currently running and gunning on a GH4, and hopefully picking up a Ronin M too. Tried to raise money on Kickstarter for a series of short films, but failed miserably. Now looking to raise funds for an ultra low budget web series. Come say hello!

Hello Andrew. Keep pushing. Money is hard to come buy these days.

Hi Andrew, nice to meet you! Do you know why you failed on Kickstarter? Am thinking about crowdfunding since quite a while but you always have to offer something and I have no idea what I could offer those who donate when I'm trying to get the budget for a small short film. Guess mentioning them in the screen credits is not what encourages anybody to donate. :) Hence, I haven't tried to get money by crowdfunding. Any advice?

Hello!

Andrew John Rainnie

Hi Guys, Elisabeth - it failed for few reasons - we asked for a lot of money (£15k) and we only had storyboards, not any actual filmed footage of the shorts. We got mentioned lots in posts and retweets, but few Facebook shares, which is where most of the donations came from. Next time I'll be more aggressive in persuing Facebook shares. Our next one will have a low target, with lots of stretch goals. Angela - on the back of that, I looked at some old ideas and found something similar to the film Buried - people waking up in a coffin-like box, being interrogated about their lives. I wanted to get back to the Talking Heads dramas the BBC used to do, where the actor's pushed the story through dialogue, but with a twist. It shouldn't cost much to film, and can probably build the set in a room at home!

Hello Andrew and Elisabeth, Crowdfunding campaigns must be prepared for 2-3 months at least. Before you have to contact everybody you know in all networks and none networks to ask them to donate when the campaign starts. When it starts well, people get impressed. In between some of your friends should donate too. Besides it has to be focused on the future spectators / clients. And many other things to be thought off... Wishing you a great weekend, Katharina

Elisabeth Meier

Thanks Steven, I'll email you.
