Screenwriting : Written Pitches by Jorge J Prieto

Written Pitches

HELP! Does anyone here knows where one can find help on writing pitches. I got the guidelines from JOEY and I wrote a two page pitch, but it looks more like a treatment than a pitch. I basically narrated the whole story, including my ending. Then just yesterday, I watched an interview RB gave Film Courage and he said that is best if one doesn't give away too much of the story and most definitely, not the ending. I send JOEY an email and attached the lengthy, two page (what looked to me) pitch, but I think he is either very busy or he is not even suppose to get involved. I wrote another pitch yesterday, one page only and omitted the ending , just wrote a skeleton of the story. I kindly ask, where can I find SAMPLES of WRITTEN PITCHES ? I wanna start testing the waters, so to speak and start pitching here, I don't want to summit a totally badly formatted, written pitch , which could shed a negative light on my story as a whole and ruined my chances of getting my screenplay read. Help, help! PLEASE anyone, fellow Stagers.

Everyone is different. I got one note that said they wanted tonal comps. Meaning they wanted me pitch to say, "Similar in tone to other World War II movies like "Twelve O"Clock High." Clearly they seem to feel that just because you tell them the genre and give them a summary of the plot that worried that they may end up looking at an action comedy when they thought they were getting a rom com.

Jorge, there's been a lot of posts about this subject. Perhaps do a general subject search in the Lounge. See what other threads come up. :) And, Joey or someone should get back to you. Keep in mind they get hundreds of emails a day. :) I do have a sample of a written pitch. I assume you got the written pitch template from Joey? If not, let me know. Just a thought... You can also post your written pitch on your page to allow others to take a look, give you feedback. You can always delete it when finished. ;)

Jorge, you may have already seen this post, but just in case you haven't, I thought I would bring it to your attention. It's more about preparing a Skype pitch but still could be helpful to you as many tips translate to written pitches as well. :) https://www.stage32.com/lounge/screenwriting/FREE-Pitch-Prep-Webinar

Thank YOU , Patricia and Beth. I.pretty much did what you Patricia pointed out, but it still needs a bit of work, since I'm working with a lead character and three ,supporting, I have decide who to include in pitch. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I will posted like you suggest Beth and I know Joey will get back to me. Keep in touch.

Thanks. Preston, brother. You're always there for me. I've done that, compared my screenplay to two. Ie: "Shared Scars" is Dead Poets Society, meets Dangerous Minds. I believe that how one phrases the comparison. Yes??

There ya go.

JOEY, I'm in. Thank YOU for reminder, had day mixed up. Sorry and thanks again . I need this webinar more than anyone, probably...

Where is this webinar Joey, I can't seem to find it.

Thanks for the great webinar on pitching Joey!!! I learned a lot and I love how you took the extra time to answer all our questions! I was the person who asked if I should sing in my verbal pitch and you said: "I'm sure you have a lovely voice but...no!" LOL! Great stuff!

Excellent webinar, JOEY. I was not able to post questions, but you answered them ALL anyway and then some. Favorite part, to be ourselves, real beings first, then writer. Can't wait to pitch, written only for me, but I 'm still working, refining my pitch with help from many here. Thank you ALL. You know who you are. Thanks again, JOEY for all that you do for us.
