Screenwriting : Does it mean I should give up, if....? by Victor Titimas

Does it mean I should give up, if....?

One of my screenplays is similar to a movie which is about to be released...There are differences, but there are also many similarities. Does it mean I should give up on that screenplay?(eg: no longer re-write it, don't submit it nowhere, delete it, etc.)? I was really fond of that particular script. Thank you for reading this!

Watch the soon-to-be-released movie... then compare/contrast how your script is similar... and different. Do so with a neutral-party mindset... be objective on what you feel works in the movie, and then polish yours with a different spin on those successful scenes in the film.

Write it. Get the story out of you into paper. If it goes no where nothing lost. It may also become a genre. You see the similarities while others may see only the differences.

Harold Vandyke

With the amount of remakes being done, if it is very similar, you might set it on a shelf and wait a few years. Move on to your next story(ies) in the meantime.
