I will soon have my first general meeting with a casting director. I want to make this productive for us both. Please share any experience and knowledge you have?
Hi Sandra. Did you have your meeting yet? How did it go? "Generals" as they are called, are so rare now a days. That is definitely a norm from a bygone era. The "Casting Director Workshop" has recently replaced it. Cool that you got a general. I'd say be yourself and make a personal connection. People help and root for people they know and like. Thats what comes to mind for me. Let us know how it goes! :) Chris
Thanks for the support. It's funny, no one really seems to know how to approach this type of meeting because they don't happen much any more. I did some research and here's what I found out. It's important to know about the work of the CD before the meeting. That way I'll know what sort of projects they cast and how I might fit into them. I agree it's an opportunity to have face time with someone who may be influential to my own work. I'm mainly going to listen and get to know the CD a bit. Casting from digital image for auditions is today's norm but if you think about it, that's kinda flat, so I'm going there thinking this CD wants to meet a 3dimensional person. Everyone has asked how I got this interview. Well, the way Bonnie Gillespie says in her amazing book Self Management For Actors. I've been open to getting to know people in the industry without any agenda. I've tried to be helpful to others and, I make my best effort to listen to and absorb advice I get. That's even though most of that advice is telling me all the work I 'should' do to be better at this.
