Introduce Yourself : Seattle-based screenwriter, ProSeries 53 Alum, 9 scripts by Daniel Magill

Daniel Magill

Seattle-based screenwriter, ProSeries 53 Alum, 9 scripts

Hello Stage 32 -- I've been on here a few months, and here's my formal introduction. I've been pursuing screenwriting as a potential career, learning not just the craft of writing, but the business side as well. My preferred genres are sci-fi and crime. I enjoy giving feedback to other writers, whether brand new ones who want to grow in their skills, or seasoned ones who want a trained and helpful eye to elevate their script. Looking forward to productive relationships with other aspiring or working film industry vets.

Hi Daniel, great to hear from you. If you haven't already, make sure you check out the Screenwriting lounge, lots of discussion and interesting posts.

Daniel Magill

Oh yes, I've been there. There is definitely a different vibe on this site that industry groups on other sites. Much more focused, in general.

Richard Willett

Hey, Daniel. I'm currently in ProSeries 57 and finding it pretty amazing. I know Seattle also because I grew up in Vancouver, BC. We also have one desert island movie in common (although there are a few of yours I was tempted to include). The one we share is SE7EN. I'm currently working on rewrites of my first thriller, and I took a Bob McKee seminar a couple years ago that was basically an entire day studying SE7EN. What an amazing and deeply disturbing movie. I'm proud to say my thriller script has been compared to it on the Black List website. Good to meet you!

Sam Inglese

Wow. Does that mean you would enjoy giving your thoughts on my latest drama?

Daniel Magill

Hi Sam - possibly. Send me a message telling me a bit about the story, and if you're looking for any feedback on specific things, or just overall general stuff. Also, please let me know how many scripts you've written.

Clark Blomquist

Dan, We agree on many of your fav films. I like your profile info as well. I'm looking for some feedback and you can find basic info at - moments-site.info - I'll check out more about you and your work soon. Best to you - CB

Jack avoids long term relationships by dating women rebounding from being dumped. Anna makes love short by showing her favorite engagement ring. But Jack has his favorite cereal box Spider Man Ring which he always shares and gets back. So how long do they have to wait for the other to do the bad deed!

Daniel Magill

Hi Richard -- yes, Seven is one of my top ten favorite films. It's so rich with character, thematic depth, ideas, and of course great cinema. Fight Club is excellent too, but I think this is Fincher's finest. How are you liking the ProSeries? I thought it was superb (though it might be a bit much for a brand new writer. I know I would have crumbled...) I waited till the right time to do it, for me.

Dar Curcio-Elsbury

Hi Daniel, I'm an Illinois-based screenwriter and soon a Pro Series 54 Alum! And yes, I agree, it's superb. My script, begun in 2013 and based on a true story, has gotten exponentially more profound, as Hal might say, title: White Gloves, Purple Heart. Great to see you here on Stage 32

Daniel Magill

When does #54 finish? It's hard to believe how frequently they must start these things. Mine wrapped in early June, and I just had my Query letter call this week. And Richard says he's already in #57.

Daniel Magill

Hi Sam -- sorry for the delay. Is that your logline? I was actually hoping for a private message, because I don't think public critiques serve anyone well. Send me a private message with the logline if you'd like some thoughts on it, and my comments will probably help your script as well. And again -- please let me know how many scripts you've written.

Richard Willett

Daniel, we just started #57 late last month.

Dar Curcio-Elsbury

Danielle, the PS 54 online sessions end this week, the forum is still active with the last two or three assignments. But now comes the one-on-one conference and transition into Alumni, Hal says might span a month. Money well spent, in my opinion.

Sam Inglese

Daniel. I am unable to find a contact to forward my screenplay to. Please send information to ambimind65@yahoo.com

Daniel Magill

Gotcha- - my bad. I forgot we had to be connected first in order to send private messages on Stage 32.

Hi Dar (Daniel, not Danielle), just as a heads up, that month turned into three months for our group. Not sure if they were just behind and are now caught up or what, but that's what happened to us. In fact, we still haven't been admitted into the alumni, but we had our calls. It could be because they just started a new Masters class, which they don't do as often since these go for two years I think.

Dar Curcio-Elsbury

Thanks for the heads up, Daniel. Three months is a long wait after building such forward momentum, with the marketing plan, a six-month career plan, etc. I'm hoping they've caught up, but...in the meantime, I'm networking on my own. And, sorry about the Danielle. That is my daughter's name so my typing fingers must've shifted into automatic pilot ;) Are you in the Masters class? And if so, how are you liking it?
