Your Stage : New Manuscript by Cherrye Vasquez, Ph.D.

Hello All, I have a new manuscript going through production right now. In fact, the illustrations and cover design are being created. The name of my new book is: "Byrdie Is Big Enough" I'd love to see this book turned into a play. Hey, I'm not greedy - a simple traveling play into schools would be ideal, too. Byrdie has a medical condition, achondroplasia, which caused her to become a dwarf (little person). Byrdie wants to play her Aunt Sadie Mae's grand piano, but there's one problem, her arms and feet won't reach the piano keys, so Byrdie spends most Saturdays sitting on Aunt Sadie Mae's window-sill watching the other children her age taking their lessons. When Byrdie finds out there is an upcoming talent show at her school, she is determined to enter. Byrdie tells her friend, Fran, her secret of wanting to enter the talent show, but is unpleasantly surprised, disappointed and becomes angry when Fran tells her that midgets can't play the piano. Byrdie has been told the term midget is derogatory, and not a socially acceptable term, but being called a dwarf or little person is more acceptable, although being called by her beautiful name, Brydie, is best of all. How will Brydie problem solve finding a way to play the piano and enter the talent show? What will she do? I hope someone is interested in taking a closer look.
