Hello. My name is Alise, a 21 year old Latvian currently living Paris (for the very same reason I joined this site!). When I was 12, I took photo camera with a video possibility (nowhere near HD/4K that we have at our fingertips now) and in 30 minutes, I made an idea of a TV show about detective girls. Me, my younger sister and my 2nd cousin filmed it all in the same day, changing roles of actors (me being the director & 2 roles for the show) and camera operators all in 2 room apartment, using same room for different scenes by changing the lighting (my cousin's bedroom was a bedroom of the protagonist AND a night club, yeah...). Then I put it all together in Windows Movie Maker. Story inaccuracies and video quality aside, I fell in love with the process - from the developpement until the very ending of putting it all together. And ever since, my passion for the filmmaking grew and I could even say that filmmaking is something that keeps me feeling alive! These are projects that I worked on just to be doing something (we have to do to learn! now, I'm MUCH better at using Premiere Pro!) https://vimeo.com/user24184312 But my true passion seems to be crime & action movies. Currently, I'm working on 3 different projects: Rewriting a short film about 40 year old man who is found guilty of killing his family and escapes the prison to see someone from his past. (it's not exactly linear) Writing a feature film in French (my 3rd language) about a young woman in her 20s who witnesses a kidnapping and decides to find the identity & the proof against the criminal. (it's a subjective, psychological crime movie) Developing a feature film in English - fictional historical crime movie set in California in 70s about 2 couples - a couple of criminals and about a police officer and her husband. Thing is, I'm introverted and I have hard time networking, can anyone give me advice? Thank you, Hope you have a wonderful day!

Hi It helps not to think of it as social networking as such, but more of honing in on a ready made pool of people, who share the same passion for film. It's not like blindly going out onto the net, the common denominator is already there, free from barriers and bullshit. (Lol....hopefully). There are Experts in the field, and Moderators, to guide you at every turn, aswell as contests and pitches that can open many doors. Now is the time to log on and get going, Alise, and show the world your particular talent.
Thank you for your encouragement, Debbie :) I guess, based on what you said, networking on this site wouldn't be too hard, but that makes me wonder - how should I approach face-to-face networking?

Do things by degrees, don't rush into anything. Take some time to build up a network here, with like minded people, and take things from there. Don't forget there is Skype, and it's possible to socialise with Stage 32 members, without the need to look for contacts elsewhere. I would message Richard Botto, who will direct you to the right people, who can advise you what contacts are most suitable for your needs. Happy Weekend.

Hi Alise, I am also an introvert. I was happy to read a post by a PR person re. the introverts in the "biz" here in the U.S.. Steve Martin surprised me by being on the list. I think baby steps are important for introverts, as is surrounding ourselves with supportive people.

Hey Alise, check out the book "Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking" by Susan Cain. You'll soon learn that being an introvert or a highly sensitive person is very much a good thing (and I say that as an extrovert).

Some tremendous advice in this thread, which illustrates why I love this community so much. Also should make you feel at ease, Alise. Networking doesn't come easy for everyone, but I promise you, this is a safe environment. Further, based on your Introduce Yourself post, you clearly have much to offer the members of this network. As they say, life begins outside of your comfort zone! Jump right in, the water is warm!
